STUDY LOOKS AT EFFECTS OF MARIJUANA, ALCOHOL ON DRIVING

Wake Forest(AP) - A Wake Forest University School of Medicine researcher is
looking for volunteers to smoke marijuana and drink alcohol.

Assistant professor of pharmacology Anthony Liguori says volunteers will
get varying doses of alcohol and marijuana as part of a study of how the
substances affect driving ability.

The Winston-Salem Journal reports that the 109 thousand dollar study
follows an earlier study that found that marijuana alone impairs driving.

The research is part of a campaign by federal health officials to gather
data about illegal drugs that can be used in drug-prevention programs.

Volunteers will be paid 600 dollars for nine sessions. They must be adults
between the ages of 21 and 45 who already smoke marijuana and drink
alcohol. Each session lasts seven and a half hours.

The medical school guarantees that volunteers' identities will remain
confidential.
