TWO FACE COURT OVER DRUG HAUL

Two people appeared in a Melbourne court yesterday charged after the
seizure last week of 53,000 ecstasy tablets worth an estimated $2 million.

Tan Chin Poh, 42, and Siew Kin Lee, 39, were arrested after a National
Crime Authority operation in which federal and Victorian police helped.

Mr Poh is charged with importing a prohibited import, possessing a
prohibited import and trafficking a drug of dependence.

Ms Lee faces charges of trafficking a drug of dependence and possessing a
drug of dependence.

The Minister for Justice and Customs, Senator Amanda Vanstone, said
yesterday that Ms Lee was arrested at Optus Oval, Carlton, allegedly in
possession of 20,000 ecstasy tablets.

She said Mr Poh, a Singaporean national, was allegedly found in possession
of 3000 ecstasy tablets.

It is alleged police found a further 30,000 tablets during a search of Mr
Poh's home in Gisborne.

Mr Poh, of Kilmore Road, Gisborne, and Ms Lee, of Burwood Highway, Burwood
East, did not apply for bail yesterday in the Melbourne Magistrates Court
and were remanded to appear again on 24 May.
