LEGALISATION DOES NOT EQUAL ENCOURAGEMENT
Sir-It would seem writers of recent letters regarding the "terrible
harm" cannabis may cause are suffering from the brain and memory
damage they attribute to any use of cannabis.
For example, John Burns (March 7) states that "we have a man in
Parliament promoting the use of cannabis". Can anyone back up this
accusation?
Nandor Tanczos speaks of harm minimisation. He believes, along with
many in the medical and scientific communities, that the current laws
are the main cause of drug misuse. He has never encouraged
"recreational" cannabis use.
But perhaps Messrs Burns, Gardner, et al, have eyesight problems, and
the message needs to be spelt out. Legalisation of cannabis does not
equal encouraging use!
They may be interested to know cannabis is proven to assist vision,
and is the only cure for some forms of glaucoma, a condition which can
lead to permanent blindness.
