BRITAIN: DRUG ADVICE REJECTED
The government rejected the recommendation of
a panel of drug experts, police officials and lawyers for the reduction of
prison sentences for the use of heroin and cocaine and an end to jail terms
for marijuana, LSD and Ecstasy users. "There's no evidence that we have
been able to find that our extremely severe penalties against the
possession of drugs have conferred any advantage on this country," said
Lady Ruth Runciman, the head of the two-year study.
