RCMP SAY "SORRY" TO HARD-WORKING VIETNAMESE
In a recent Province article, a member of the Coquitlam RCMP detachment
referred to the Vietnamese as "using the services of different crime groups"
to franchise commercial marijuana growing operations.
"Vietnamese" were referred to repeatedly.
It was not the intention of the RCMP or any of our members to paint the
entire Vietnamese community as being involved in criminal activity.
On behalf of the Coquitlam RCMP, I would like to take this opportunity to
apologize to those honest and hard-working members of the Vietnamese
community who were offended at being included in a generalized statement
about the Vietnamese and criminal activity.
Ric Hall, superintendent, officer in charge, Coquitlam detachment, RCMP
The story on "Vietnamese" grow operations was an insult to a majority of
law-abiding, hard-working Vietnamese Canadians - among them many
professionals, civil servants and university students.
