PUB LTE: WAR ON DRUGS IS REALLY A POWER GAME

Editor -- Kudos for publishing Laura Hamburg's March 26 article, ``Law
and Disorder.'' It shows how a brave few have made a positive
difference in the lives of people under their jurisdiction. It also
shows that the state, counties and cities are under no obligation to
enforce the federal drug laws.

On the flip side, it shows, again, as if it needs repeating, how
hooked law enforcement agencies are on the capricious exercise of
power the War on Drugs gives them. They aren't satisfied with power
that the prohibition of heroin, cocaine and meth provides, they want
to keep it all.
