COULD CANNABIS PRODUCTION MATCH DEMAND? (1 of 2)

Sir - So Sir Richard Branson, the tobacco companies and Anita Roddick have
no interest in taking over cannabis sales (report, April 1). What a
surprise. There is another problem. Locoweed in Britain is strictly a
conservatory crop and it would take years to develop the infrastructure to
grow it in any significant amounts.

There is no legal source of large amounts of cannabis anywhere in the
world. But not to worry. We can follow the example of enlightened Holland
and let the international criminals supply it.

A few entrepreneurs did step forward in Holland to seek the supply contract
but they were quickly made offers they couldn't refuse to withdraw their
bids. You criticise New Labour for student politics and then you come up
with the most sophomoric idea imaginable. You don't have to be trendy - we
would prefer you not to be.
