SALVATIONIST OUT OF STEP

LES COOK is right to celebrate the undoubted and many virtues of the
Salvation Army in his letter criticising mine of three days earlier (CT,
March 31). Unfortunately, he seems to have missed my main point. Major
Watters, in his wowserish crusade against the harm-minimisation approach to
currently illicit drugs, is seriously out of step (if I may use a military
metaphor) with many of his colleagues, his own best traditions and even his
own theology. If this is a personal attack, so be it.
