ANTI-DRUG PROGRAM SET AT MEQUON SCHOOL
Mequon - A drug awareness program featuring undercover officers from
the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Department will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The program, sponsored by the Lakeshore Middle School PTA, will be
held in the school, 11036 N. Range Line Road. The program is open both
to local residents and to people from surrounding communities.
Mario Valdes, Mequon's juvenile liaison police officer, and Kathy
Lamb, the Mequon-Thiensville School District drug prevention
coordinator, will talk about drug use at the middle school level,
preventive measures, and cooperative efforts with school and police
officials.
Valdes said undercover officers with the county's drug unit will
discuss what they see happening with juveniles throughout the county.
He said parents will also have a chance to get a firsthand look at
some of the drugs middle schoolers begin experimenting with.
"These are the gateway drugs," he said, "such as alcohol, inhalants
and marijuana. We're even seeing some cocaine at this level."
