UN DRUG BOARD CLARIFIES HEROIN INJECTING ROOM STANCE
The United Nations' Narcotic Control Board says any statement regarding
Sydney's proposed heroin injecting room will be made by the UN as a whole.
Members of the board, who are presently in Sydney on a routine visit, last
night met state government officials to voice their objections to the
proposal.
The group then spent this morning visiting the recently established drug
court at Parramatta.
Board secretary Herbert Schape says as far as the injecting room is
concerned, he will make recommendations to the rest of the board and then it
will be up to the 200 governments that comprise the UN to decide whether to
take action.
