DRUG CZAR SHOULDN'T TRY TO CONTROL THE PRESS

I APPRECIATED THE ARTICLE "ONLINE JOURNALIST TANGLES WITH FEDS OVER ANTIDRUG
POLICY" (PAGE D12, APRIL 7), BUT A BETTER TITLE WOULD HAVE BEEN: "DRUG
CZAR'S OFFICE ATTACKS SALON REPORTER IN AN ATTEMPT TO SILENCE THE PRESS."
THE ATTACK IS AN OBVIOUS ATTEMPT TO SILENCE SALON, THE REPORTER, AND ANY
OTHER PAPER THAT DARES TO CRITICIZE GENERAL MCCAFFREY'S FAILED POLICIES.

Shouldn't McCaffrey's Office of National Drug Control Policy focus on drug
control instead of policing the press? It hasn't had any success controlling
drugs.

We, the people, are counting on the press to watch and report on our
government. Today, more than ever, it needs watching.
