LONDON CAN DO WITHOUT THE LIKES OF MARC EMERY
It was with considerable disappointment that I read the ad on the back
page of the April 14 Today section and found that Marc Emery had once
again decided to grace the London scene with his presence.
As I recall, Emery was all in favour of the legalization of marijuana.
When he found himself unable to change the law on this subject, he not
only threatened that he would leave London, but that he would abandon
Canada, also. He did indeed keep his promise to leave, and stalked off
in high dudgeon to somewhere out west. Now, this man has the gall to
take out an advertisement in The Free Press announcing his unwelcome
return.
Are we supposed to rejoice? Should we kill the fatted calf to
celebrate the return of the prodigal son? I think not. With his ultra-
liberal views, London can do without him.
With his views on certain drugs, he has proved himself to be a poor
role model for the young people of this city. It is ludicrous for him
to proclaim himself proud to be a Londoner. The only thing he has to
be proud of is his decision to leave London and go west. But then,
maybe they didn't want him, either.
