TOO MUCH STRESS ON THE DRUG LOSERS
I have the greatest admiration for Professor Penington, but in this instance
his support for a "safe" injecting room in Port Philip must surely be based
on the wish to preserve lives of drug losers than the protection of the
community from those who knowingly, willingly and carelessly indulge in what
is in fact a very dangerous habit.
The end result is that our previously much-abused ambulance service is all
too often called to resuscitate heroin users, when they should be ready to
attend people who abide by the law but need the service in case of accident
or sudden illness.
