SWEDEN HAS THE ANSWER

CONGRATULATIONS to the Herald Sun for opposing injecting rooms. Sweden had
an explosion of drug use like Australia, and they were able to reverse their
policies so that their drug use is now six times lower than Australia. We
should follow their example.

Sweden uses a system of court-ordered, supervised detoxification schemes to
get addicts drug-free, followed by comprehensive rehabilitation and family
reconciliation.

The Herald Sun, in an editorial (October 21, 1999), called for similar
programs in Victoria.

The problem with injecting facilities is that they do not get the addict
drug free, so drug use expands, drug pushing and crime increases and the
community pays in many ways.

Sweden has a proven method of reducing drug demand. Victorians must insist
our governments listen to us and demand policies which reduce the number of
addicts in our community.
