Prevention of heroin abuse is not discussed in your article about heroin
use among suburban teenagers ("Face of Heroin: It's Younger and Suburban,"
news article, April 25).
Psychological stress associated with emotional disturbances like
anger, depression and anxiety are significant pathogenic factors in
heroin addiction.
Early recognition of the psychological disturbances by family, friends
and teachers, and subsequent treatment can play an important
prevention role.
