CANNABIS FOUND UNDER VAN FLOOR, COURT TOLD

ALOR STAR: The High Court here was told Sunday that 56 slabs of cannabis
were found under the floor of a van, which had been modified, driven by a
former soldier.

Sarjan Hamzah Mahmud, from the Anti-Smuggling Unit, Bukit Kayu Hitam, said
the flooring of the van had four secret compartments which contained 14
slabs of cannabis each.

"The discovery was made after our team conducted a 100% check on the
vehicle at the Jitra district police headquarters," he said at the trial of
Nordin Awang, 41, who is accused of distributing 51,981gm of cannabis.

He is accused of committing the offence on March 10, 1998, at about 10pm at
the Jitra toll plaza.

The trial is being heard by Justice Datuk Allauddin Mohd Sheriff, who
adjourned hearing to today.
