ASK A COP: HELP FOR SPOTTING DRUG USE

This is the first installment of a four-week series titled "A General
Parental Guide to Drug Abuse Indicators."

With the resurgence of the drug "ecstasy," this week's installment
addresses common drugs, effects and types.

Five basic drug types:

Stimulants -- amphetamines, cocaine, nicotine.

Depressants -- tranquilizers, alcohol, methaqualone.

Hallucinogens -- LSD, PCP (Angel Dust).

Narcotics -- heroin, opium, Demerol, inhalants.

Cannabis -- marijuana, hashish, hash oil.

Types of inhalants:

Solvents -- glue, gasoline, paint, paint thinner.

Aerosols -- hair sprays, deodorants, spray paint.

Nitrates -- Butyl nitrate, nitrous oxide.
