SEMINAR TO ADDRESS EFFECTS OF METH ON WELL-BEING OF CHILDREN
Methamphetamine poses a very serious threat to the health and
well-being of area children. Wherever meth is being made or used,
there are children who are being harmed by meth makers, meth users,
or the chemicals needed for or produced in the production of methamphetamine.
To address this problem, a workshop entitled "The Effects of
Methamphetamine on Children" will be held on Thursday, November 2, at
New Hope Church, 2210 North Raney in Effingham. The workshop is
sponsored by the Helping Services Committee of the Fourth Judicial
Circuit Family Violence Coordinating Council.
Key Speaker for this workshop will be Dr. Deanna St. Germain, a
family physician and child protection specialist. She received her
undergraduate degree from St. Joseph's College of Maine and her
medical degree from the University of New England College of
Osteopathic Medicine. She is an assistant professor of clinical
pediatrics and clinical assistant professor of family practice at
Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and University of
Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine. St. Germain is the medical
director of the Children's Medical Resource Network, a medical
resource for abused children and professionals in southern Illinois.
The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to noon. Doors open at 8:30
a.m. The registration fee of $25 includes breakfast and resource
materials. Registration deadline is October 26. To register or for
more information, call Brenda at (618) 283-1763.
