DEFENDANT REPRESENTS SELF, WINS
VICTORVILLE - A three-strikes defendant facing 25 years to life in prison
on a possession of a controlled substance charge represented himself at
trial and was acquitted.
"I'm still in shock. I can't believe it. I haven't seen hardly anybody win
any three strikes cases," Dana Baucom said after the Monday verdict.
Although he was helped by Deputy Public Defender Phyllis Morris, Baucom
spent his free time in jail studying law and writing motions in pencil to
the judge.
Jailed since Nov. 5, 1996, Baucom became a free man after the verdict.
