CHURCH STICKS TO HEROIN TRIAL
The Uniting Church yesterday vowed to push ahead with the heroin injecting
room trial at its nominated Sydney site despite divisions within the local
community.
A spokesman for NSW Special Minister of State John Della Bosca said the
organisation remained the first choice despite the recent announcement by a
local community group, the Kings Cross Community Coalition (KCCC), to fight
for the licence.
The KCCC said it was unhappy with the church's bid to operate the room at a
property at 66 Darlinghurst Rd.
The coalition group said more than 70 businesses in the area opposed the
site.
