WELFARE PAYMENTS WASTED IF CASH GOES TO A DRUG FIX

The Editor,

Re: "Letter shows simplistic view of drug addiction" and "Drug
addicts need as much compassion as sick," The Now letters, Sept. 27.

I agree with Lawrence Melanson to an extent that the justice system
should be strengthened in order to contribute to decreasing the drug
problem; however, I disagree with Clayton Randle.

Why wouldn't anyone write hateful diatribes to any newspaper in
general? People have the right to their own opinions and should stand
by what they say, be it positive or negative.

Give me a break!

My question for Mr. Randle: Why would you throw away your hard-earned
tax dollars just so a junkie can get their fix? Is there any logic in
paying for a person's heroin or cocaine against your will? I don't think so.

And yes, there are addicts who live in my neighbourhood, but
unfortunately, some harass and feed off others just to get their fix.
Even if they are collecting welfare, it is definitely enough to put
food on their table and shoes on their feet. But as I have stated
before, it all goes to waste - in their arms. I guess it only goes to
show why the Campbell Liberals have given up on this crisis. Sad, but true.
