ATTACK ON MAYOR WAS OFFENSIVE
Re: "Mayor Blasted for Drug Crackdown", April 9.
With due respect I consider that Allen Randell's diatribe, sent via
e-mail from Victoria, should not have been published. It offends an
elected official with a debasing epithet in the first paragraph, and
again in the outrageous last paragraph.
The first and foremost duty of the mayor of any city is to be
concerned with the health and quality of life of the people of his
city. Consequently, when a mayor, in cooperation with the peace
officers, or RCMP, address a serious problem that involves criminal
activities, he is fulfilling his assumed responsibility perfectly.
Therefore, in my opinion, no one should be allowed to insult and
ridicule a person in authority who is exercising his duties.
The subject of Randell's letter: the illegal growing of marijuana, is
of great concern to all of us. It should be discussed adequately and
conclusively in an open forum with full cooperation of our mayor.
