MOSQUES MAY BE USED TO COMBAT DRUG WOES
KUALA TERENGGANU: Police are considering using mosques to help combat
drug problems in Terengganu, state police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff
Jaafar said.
He said state police would meet officials from the state Religious
Department for police officers to give ceramahs on drug abuse at mosques.
"We will seek approval from the department to allow police officers to
conduct the ceramahs on drugs after or before Friday prayers,'' he
told reporters at the Sehari Bersama Polis (A Day with the Police)
celebrations at Kampung Panji recently.
Mohd Yusoff said police had been working closely with the department
in the past by organising ceramah at mosques in the state during
Friday prayers to combat crime.
He was commenting on Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah
Badawi's statement recently calling on all mosques to declare war on
drugs in their Friday sermons.
