The drug known as methylenedioxymethamphetamine can damage vital organs,
especially the liver.
It is to blame in the death of a 22-year-old Winnipeger last year.
In two other Canadian cases, teens needed emergency liver transplants and
nearly died.
What the medical literature says:
* In Barcelona, 62 cases of acute liver failure were reported between 1994
and 1996. Medical experts cited Ecstasy.
* In London, there were eight cases. Two patients collapsed within six
hours of taking the drug.
* In Holland, 10 deaths were reported.
