PROHIBITION'S LESSON

Thanks for printing the Rev. H.W. Skipper's letter [May 17], which
encouraged ending the militant prohibition that is causing our drug war.
The alcohol ban was overturned when voters realized that it was causing
endemic corruption, violence and child alcoholism. We are relearning this
lesson with other drugs, only because we permitted a kind of McCarthyism to
lead the drug debate.
