NEARLY 12,000 POT PLANTS SEIZED IN SANTA CLARA COUNTY

Sheriff's deputies seized almost 12,000 marijuana plants from two
Santa Clara County sites last week, bringing the year's total to a
record 122,000 plants.

The county's marijuana eradication team confiscated more than 2,300
plants on Thursday along Mt. Umunhum, sheriff's spokesman Deputy Serg
Palanov said. The next day, they seized another 9,600 plants just off
Page Mill Road in unincorporated Palo Alto.

No arrests were made at either location, but deputies suspect at
least five people were tending to each site, Palanov said.

Together, the plants seized this year would be worth more than $480
million if mature.

Anyone with information about illegal marijuana gardens is asked to
call the eradication team's tip line at (408) 808-4420. Contact Kimra
McPherson at kmcpherson@mercurynews.com or (408) 920-5928.
