COMMITTEE IS VERY SUCCESSFUL

We should be crystal clear about one thing-the forum on Crystal Meth
in Keremeos last weekend is just the latest success for a committee
that has a lot to celebrate.

There may be some disappointment on the committee's part that just
under 60 people were on hand for the "Let's Be Crystal Clear" forum
September 23 at Victory Hall.

There may also be some disappointment that there was no
representation from the school district at this event.

But that would be missing the real success of what this committee has
accomplished. And it is pretty long list, given the relatively short
life of this committee.

It started with a government grant that got the committee off and
running. Then there was the purchase of community computers
strategically placed in the community to provide people with
important information on this terrible drug.

Then the committee put out a retailer's guide to crystal meth, which
gave business people, and the public, information on what goes into
Crystal Meth and what to be on the lookout for, as far as users
purchasing those ingredients.

That guide was then released officially at an information night in Hedley.

And finally, the commitee secured two expert (and hard to get)
speakers for this most recent forum.

The committee can also claim a considerable amount of corporate
sponsorship, including both Valley First Credit Union and CIBC who
have given significant donations.

There are lots of committees around, but few that can match this list
of accomplishments.

In an age of apathy, we think getting close to 60 people out on a
Saturday afternoon to be huge success.

No, in every way this committee should look upon their
accomplishments as successful.

We certainly do.
