BRANCH SUPPORTS INJECTING ROOMS
HEROIN injecting rooms should be established in safe areas across the
community, according to the Hamilton branch of the ALP.
The branch has registered its support for the controversial issue, the
subject of a trial in Sydney's King Cross, at the ALP conference.
But the party's Health Service Policy Committee has adopted a formal
position on the issue, acknowledging that strong views are held on the issue
of drugs in the community.
"There is no one single solution for preventing and treating drug abuse, but
education, enforcement, discouragement and treatment must be key elements to
any approach," the committee's recommendation in response said.
