RELIEF AT NALTREXONE DECISION
I am at last breathing an agonising sigh of relief. Our non-profit
organisation presented the first paper in August 1997 regarding the use of
naltrexone to the Health Department bureaucrats.
I have struggled during this period, with nothing less than a protocol for
detoxification, to get people off heroin and methadone with excellent
success rates. The initial reaction was a total disgrace. "Wonder drug",
"miracle cure" were never mentioned by me.
The Minister of Health and his officers have witnessed out-treatment and
protocols. Please, Mr Della Bosca, get advice from those at the coalface of
this treatment.
I ask Mr Della Bosca to visit us doing the procedure next week when we take
three or four young people off drugs in one day and one night.
Paola Totaro, I also invite you.
Dr Barry Landa, medical adviser/director, Addiction Treatment Australia,
