UNITING CHURCH NOT INVITED TO SUMMIT
The Alternative Drug Summit has apparently been organised by the
Salvation Army. It has a Uniting Church minister (the Rev Fred Nile)
as its sponsor. I am told that the Anglican Archbishop of Sydney and
the Catholic Bishop of Parramatta are two of its patrons.
According to your newspaper report, it has spent much of its time
attacking the medically supervised injecting-room trial to be operated
by the Uniting Church in Kings Cross.
However, the Uniting Church, another part of the Christian community,
was never told about the alternative summit and we were not invited to
give the reasons for our involvement in the trial. An oversight? More
likely just plain rudeness and discourtesy.
