PACT WITH MALAYSIA
Thai and Malaysian police have agreed to work together more closely to
tackle drugs, weapons smuggling and other crimes.
The two sides met here to formulate plans at the 11th Departmental
Review of Joint Thailand-Malaysia Working Committee on Criminal Activities.
The meeting was attended by Pol Lt-Gen Narongwit Thaithong, deputy
national police chief, and Malaysia's police inspector-general Tan Sri
Norian bin Mai.
Both sides agreed their police forces and other authorities would
collaborate to ensure their field officials exchange information more
often through formal and non-formal channels.
Authorities on both sides would co-operate on intelligence gathering
and suppression of drug traffickers and weapons smugglers.
They would meet more frequently to discuss ways to combat all forms of
economic crime and vehicle thefts on both sides of the border. Border
patrols would also be boosted.
