STAFFER VETOES PROPOSAL

A MEMBER of a State Government minister's staff is among those on
Dandenong City Council who voted against heroin injecting rooms.

Dale Wilson works in the office of Major Projects and Tourism Minister
John Pandazopoulos, and has held the Dandenong electoral officer
position since 1982.

But he was among those to vote for a motion rejecting heroin injecting
rooms.

"My concern is I really think council should have waited until the
parliament had passed or not passed legislation before voting," Mr
Wilson said.

"I don't like the idea of injecting rooms, but we have 800 people a
day injecting without supervision . . . I haven't made up my mind."

Despite taking a vote that could help end the government's plans for
five injecting rooms, Mr Wilson said he was under no pressure from Mr
Pandazopoulos.
