TRAFFICKERS USE LOLLIPOPS IN SMUGGLING PLOY
BOGOTA -- Colombian traffickers apparently are trying to smuggle
cocaine-filled lollipops into the United States.
Police at Bogota airport seized a package of 215 "Bon-Bon-Bum" lollies
destined for New York and discovered the traditional bubble-gum centers had
been replaced with drugs.
Each lollipop was filled with about 21 grams of pure cocaine, worth as much
as $7,000 once cut and sold on U.S. streets.
"This is the first time we have seen this method being used. This is just
another sign of the inventiveness of Colombia's drug traffickers," said
Col. Mauricio Agudelo, head of Bogota airport police.
