BBC TALKING POINTS PROGRAM, "THE TRADE IN ILLEGAL DRUGS"
Year after year, the supply of illegal drugs around the world grows,
despite billions of dollars being spent on the problem.
An increasing number of people are coming to the conclusion that this
so-called "war on drugs" has been lost and that other options need to be
explored.
Is the current drug-control effort a waste of money and lives? Are there
any alternative options?
We have been listening to your views LIVE on the World Service's Talking
Point On Air programme. You can add to the debate by using the form at the

BBC Talking Points. The current recorded program is "The Trade in Illegal
Drugs" of Sunday, 6/18. There are buttons for RealPlayer at 14K and 28K.
This tape link will last the week until they put next weeks show over it.
They had callers literally from around the globe live. It was really
exciting stuff. The guest were Police Chief Collin Phillips, head of the
drug committee of the Association of Chief Police Officers of England and
Wales. And Sanho Tree, Director of the Drug Policy Project of the Institute
of Policy Studies in Washington, D.C.
The segment I am in comes in at about 25 minutes and runs to near 30 minutes.
There were perspectives across the spectrum. I've never had such a world
spanning experience before. I got to say everything that I wanted to say
plus some. They nudged me happily off the stage.
My most trusted critic, my wife, liked it.
I have to thank Mark Greer for emailing me last night with some succinct
and critical advice on getting through the stage fear. Thank you Mark. 100%
on target.
