TWO NATIONS SIGN ACCORD TO BAR DRUGS

China and the United States yesterday signed an anti-drug agreement
that will let both countries share crime information.

At a press conference yesterday afternoon, Barry R. McCaffrey,
director of the US Office of National Drug Control Policy, called the
signing of the agreement "an important moment."

"It is the first legal agreement between the two great
countries."

McCaffrey said discussion preceding the agreement covered information,
chemical control, drug signature analysis and arms smuggling related
to heroin and "ice."

They also talked about possible co-operation between the US Federal
Bureau of Investigation and China's law enforcement departments.
