TWO GET JAIL FOR HAVING CANNABIS
MUAR: The High Court here sentenced two men to a total of 15 and-half
years' jail and 20 strokes of the rotan yesterday after they pleaded guilty
to possessing cannabis in two separate cases last year.
In the first case, Ahmad Nizam Khamis, 23, from Kluang, pleaded guilty to
possessing 285.6gm of cannabis on July 11 last year and sentenced to
six-and-half years' imprisonment and given 10 strokes of the rotan.
In the second case, Ho Tan Kian Huat, from Rengit near Batu Pahat, pleaded
guilty to possessing 4,883gm of cannabis on April 29 last year.
He was sentenced to nine years' jail and given 10 strokes of the rotan.
Ahmad Nizam, represented by G. Visvanathan, was arrested near the Air Hitam
toll plaza while Ho, represented by Kelvin Lim, was arrested in Taman Bukit
Pasir, Batu Pahat.
Both cases were presided over by Justice Datuk Jeffrey Tan Kok Wha while
state DPP Azman Ahmad prosecuted.
