SHOCKED BY 'DIAL-A-NEEDLE'
I COULDN'T believe it when first I read it: when I read it a second time it
still seemed unbelievable.
A local newspaper reported that the Whitehorse Community Health Service had
won a three-year $600,000 (yes, $600,000) tender from the Victorian
Government Human Services Department to deliver needles and syringes to drug
users on receipt of a phone call.
Described as an "exciting project" the service will deliver needles and
syringes within the eastern suburbs, between 7.30pm and 11.30pm every day,
without charge.
Has our State Government gone crazy?
The elderly exist on "meals on wheels" delivered thrice weekly, and for
which they pay a small contribution, and diabetics pay for and collect
necessary syringes and needles.
