DETECTIVE SCHEDULED TO SPEAK FOR DRUG AWARENESS WEEK
Drug awareness week is fast approaching. For this occasion, WECADA
(Weyburn Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse) has arranged for
Detective Walton to speak to local schools from November 22 to 25. At
this time almost every school in Weyburn has him booked, along with
some rural schools in the area.
Workshops will be on Street Drug Awareness for Youth ages seven to
12, teens aged 13 to 18 and parents are offered. There is also a
presentation for parents only.
Along with the above workshops, you can also choose from a variety of
workshops which range from two up to eight hours per workshop. These
workshops are marihuana and cocaine, ecstasy and methamphetamine,
emerging drug trends, hallucinogens, first responders safety and
clandestine laboratories, big five drug trends and finally street
drug awareness.
These presentations range from 45 minutes up to 12 hours for the
parental presentation. It is a two day course covering topics which
include, but are not limited to physiological/ psychological
responses, methodology of use, physical recognition skills, street
jargon, packaging and pricing and treatment/prevention strategies.
Detective Steve Walton is a retired 25 year veteran of law
enforcement. For the last 10 years of his career he was assigned to a
Drug Unit. In that capacity he supervised an undercover street team
and managed more than 120 undercover drug operation and 780
undercover drug transactions.
Steve has published numerous articles in a variety of publications in
Canada and the United States and is the author of the award winning,
best selling book 'First Response Guide to Street Drugs' Volume One.
He recently completed his second book 'Club Drugs, and Predatorial
Chemicals; A First Response Guide to Street Drugs' Volume Two.
WECADA has been contacting businesses and organizations throughout
Weyburn and area to see if they would like to help in sponsoring
(either publicly or privately) Detective Walton's presentations. They
are currently seeking financial support to accommodate his travel
expenses, overnight accommodations, workshop costs, and meals. If any
business, group or organization who hasn't been contacted by WECADA
thus far would like to help, you can contact Lise Soles at 842 0147
or e-mail her at llsoles@sasktel.net.
There is still some room left in Detective Walton's schedule to speak
to specific groups. If a group or business would like to book
Detective Walton to come and speak at their facility, they can also
contact Lise at the number listed in this article. For information on
his workshops and books you can visit his website at www.dopeondope.com
