RCMP'S LOZINSKI ALREADY A WELCOME ADDITION TO OUR TOWN
A couple of weeks ago we used this space to say "Welcome" to two
important new people in Osoyoos -- the new top administrator for the
Town and the new elementary school principal.
There's another new face in town and, while he hasn't even moved here
yet, he is already providing evidence that he will be a very welcome
addition to our community.
Staff Sgt. Kurt Lozinski is the new commander of the Osoyoos RCMP detachment.
He is in the process of moving here from his previous assignment in Princeton.
Two things are already distinguishing Lozinski as someone who will
give a real boost to policing in town.
First, he comes with a stellar record in drug enforcement. As he told
Town Council recently, "We've had some tremendous successes (in drug
enforcement) in Princeton and I'd like to carry that on in Osoyoos."
Like it or not, our town needs attention on the drug front. There's
little doubt that much of our crime is related to the drug trade --
witness the violent home invasion that took place near downtown last
May. And the growing threat posed by crystal meth use has to be
attacked head-on.
Second, Lozinski is proving not only by his words, but already by his
actions, that he believes strongly in an open, collaborative style of
working with people and organizations in the community.
He has met many through his attendance at the recent local crystal
meth community meeting. He has also quickly developed a good working
relationship with Town CAO Helen Koning. And he has taken the
initiative to introduce himself to Council.
It all bodes well for our Town. "Welcome, Kurt!"
