60-YEAR-OLD CANADIAN CHARGED IN MAJOR DRUG BUST
A 60-year-old man of a Canada address has been arrested and charged
in connection with the major September 29 drug bust at 18 Bay Farm
Road, in which narcotics police, Operation Kingfish and the military
seized 7,650lbs of compressed ganja.
Errol Anthony Morris, an electrician of Ontario, Canada is scheduled
to appear before the Half-Way-Tree Resident Magistrate's court to
answer charges of possession of, dealing in and taking steps to
export marijuana.
According to the police information arm, the Constabulary
Communication Network (CCN), Morris was in the island visiting
relatives when he was picked up by police, following an
intelligence-led raid at the house where he was staying. Detectives
investigating the incident said they had made significant progress in
the case but that were seeking another man, said to be Morris'
relative, in connection with the seizure.
Narcotics police said that the ganja, which weighed 1,760lbs, more
than the 5,890 lbs of contraband confiscated at Elletson Road three
nights prior to that, was destined for export and that the two cases
were linked to the drugs-for-gun trade between Jamaica and its French
Caribbean neighbour, Haiti.
The drugs had a street value of approximately $30 million on the
local market and almost US$23 million overseas. In the September 29
raid, the joint security forces found 170 carton boxes of the
compressed ganja along with a considerable quantity of pharmaceutical
drugs, including the male impotence pill, Viagra.
