SURVEY FINDS BUSH SPORTSPEOPLE USING CANNABIS
Country sporting clubs are being urged to develop policies on cannabis use
after a survey found significant drug use among club members.
The Australian Drug Foundation surveyed 13 rural sports clubs and found
drug use at levels matching the wider population.
The foundation's Geoff Munroe says many clubs have developed alcohol
policies, but may not be aware of the level of cannabis use.
"It affects lung function and it might affect their motivation," he said.
"I think there's a presumption that people playing competitive sport
probably don't smoke tobacco and probably don't use cannabis as [much as]
the rest of the population, so I think that is a surprise."
