GREED FUELS 'WAR'

Congress has appropriated $1 billion for the drug war in Colombia.
Lawmakers used the term drug war instead of "the war on drugs," which
is fitting. Drug war implies drug lords fighting over territory. And
that is what we have, Corporate America vs. the Colombian cartels.

To justify this war, the U.S. will target a few bases of the Fuerzas
Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia, or FARC, as these Colombian
leftists are supposedly the main target. Far from being pushovers like
our recent interventions in Panama and Iraq, they have acquired
weapons from Russia in a drugs-for-guns scheme, a la CIA-Sandinistas.
Already a U.S. aircraft has been lost as it probed areas controlled
by FARC.

Compromises for the lucrative U.S. market have failed, replaced with
greed. No longer will battles be fought in boardrooms, but rather on
battlefields. And the tragic part of this operation is that young
Americans will be dying in Colombia's jungles so that young Americans
can die on American streets.
