DARE WORKS

Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson calls DARE "a fraud upon the
people of America" (Tribune, June 22). I dare to call the mayor a
fraud. My children will not ever meet him in their classroom nor will
they know of his support to keep them drug free. DARE officers offer
more than a choice to say no to drugs, they offer a relationship
between a police officer and a child. This lasting impression will
instill in our children a respect for authority and that a police
officer is just like them wanting peace and a safe place to live. They
educate children in the circumstances that they may experience in
elementary school, junior high, high school or even college.

If you think back to your childhood you vividly remember those people
by name that influence you to live a better life. I support the DARE
program as a parent and especially as a teacher in the public school
system.
