TEENAGERS TEACH DANGER OF DRUGS

A GROUP of teenagers have got together to teach other youngsters
about the dangers of drugs.

Raft, Raising Awareness for Families and Teens, will tour youth
centres and schools across East Lindsey to deliver its message.

Its members are aged 16 to 18 and include three pupils from Cordeaux
School, a pupil from Monk's Dyke Technology College and a student at
Lincoln University.

Raft chairperson Hannah Salkeld, 17, a sixth former at Cordeaux
School, said the group has written short plays and quizzes to help
put its message across.

She said: "We make it really fun."

One play involves two underage girls going to a nightclub. One of
them is the girlfriend of the bouncer. He gives her an ecstasy tablet
with tragic results.

Hannah said: "We went on a course to find out more about drugs."

She said many people do not know enough about drugs and problems from
drug use can happen anywhere.

Hannah said: "We talk about all kinds of drugs from cannabis to
ecstasy to legal drugs like cigarettes and alcohol."

* Raft will give its first full presentation at Mablethorpe Youth
Centre from 7pm on October 18. They will be giving a trial
presentation at Horncastle Youth Centre today, October 11, from 7-9pm.
