PHISH CONCERT-GOERS NET DRUG-RELATED TICKETS
Investigation Into Death Of Sleeping Fan Continues
Elkhorn - Walworth County sheriff's deputies issued tickets for
drug-related offenses to 111 concert-goers attracted by Saturday's Phish
concert at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre, authorities said Monday.
Ninety of the tickets involved possession of marijuana, and others involved
possession or sale of LSD, psilocybin mushrooms, opium of look-alike drugs,
said sheriff's Lt. Tim Schiefelbein, head of the department's drug
enforcement unit.
A capacity crowd of 35,000 attended the concert, which attracted fans from
around the country. Several thousand other people arrived at the site
hoping to find tickets to the performance, according to Lt. Jay Maritz.
Maritz said officers also issued tickets for various other alleged offenses:
140 for underage drinking, mainly in Alpine Valley parking lots. 41 for
speeding and for other traffic violations in the theater area. 15 for
miscellaneous hit-and-run accidents and theft.
Potential forfeiture amounts for those offenses not uncovered by the
county's drug enforcement unit will total more than $42,290, he said.
Also, the investigation continued Monday into the death of a Phish fan
killed when he was struck by a car while sleeping on the ground.
Michael P. Moore, 30, of Angola, Ind., was wrapped in a blanket when he was
hit by a car in a parking lot at the East Troy-area amphitheater about 2:25
a.m. Sunday, sheriff's investigators said.
Moore died at the scene. No charges are being sought against the driver, a
16-year-old from Hutchinson, Minn. The teen was leaving the grounds after
the concert and told investigators he did not see Moore, officers said.
Moore apparently had been sleeping under the car but rolled out into the
path of traffic, Walworth County Undersheriff David Graves said.
