FIGHT FRAUD AND LEAVE DEALERS TO COPS
We don't like the picture of armed transit officers at SkyTrain stations.
But we like drug pushers there even less.
Granted, security needs to be tightened at the 20 stations along the 30
kilometres of track. A lot of people refuse to go near the commuter train
for fear of violence; 15 drug arrests at the Metrotown station last week
alone. But we think protection would be better served if the municipalities
joined forces - added a group of qualified police officers to the roster
dedicated to working the station beat, answerable to a municipal master
instead of the transit company: Less conflict, more efficiency, we say.
Transit ought to tackle the many scammers among its users before its
mandate is expanded to deal with dealers.
