HE WANTED TO HAVE A CLEAN LIFE
Re: "Driver Shoots Up, Dies," Oct. 8.
Once again, someone cried out for help and it was not forthcoming.
This poor man desperately wanted to be free of his addiction but
instead became another statistic.
The unafflicted cannot possibly understand the desperation of being
enslaved to a substance that nags to be fed, constantly. All day. It
never leaves you alone.
There is something very tragic about spending tax dollars on an
enabling "injection site" for people who want to keep doing what
they're doing. Those people aren't interested in getting clean. Yet
someone like David Smelts did want to get clean and have a good life.
Oh well. I guess he is just more "collateral damage" in the terribly
skewed spending practices of our government. Whose money is it, anyway?
