FRED NILE WEIGHS INTO INJECTING ROOM DEBATE

High-profile Christian campaigner Reverend Fred Nile says Archbishop Peter
Carnley and leader of the Opposition Kim Beazley must drop their public
support for state-sponsored heroin injection rooms.

Mr Nile, who is a member of the New South Wales parliament, is launching the
Christian Democratic Party's state election campaign tonight.

He says he will be speaking about drug issues, and specifically campaigning
against safe houses for heroin injecting.

Mr Nile says he has recently returned from an overseas trip, where he was
convinced that a "compulsory care" practice like Sweden's is a better option
than legalised shooting galleries.

"Sweden has adopted legislation which says that the state has a duty of care
for its citizens, the same as an employer has a duty of care for his
employees, and so the police have the authority to pick up suspected drug
addicts off the street or any other place," he said.
