NEW WEAPONS IN DRUG WAR
THE United Nations Internatjonal Narcotics Control Board says
Australia is losing the war on drugs (C-M, July 11). I agree.
If the UN supplies details of other countries' policies which have
reduced addiction and trafficing, we might consider evaluating them.
In the meantime, let the UN be assured we are following its policies
(or the policies of the US Government), and this is the result:
possibly up to 1000 deaths this year, many more people in jail and
others destitute and living on the streets.
The UN should recognise that the failure is both the UN's and ours.
It's time to try something new and save the lives of our young. A
heroin trial would be a great start.
