MARIJUANA PRESCRIBED FOR PAIN, NOT A SOLUTION

A federal judge in California ruled Tuesday that it was OK for
marijuana to be issued to those needing it for medical purposes.

While the federal government has said that there is no medical purpose
for marijuana, some people insist that the use of marijuana lessens
pain and reduces suffering caused by injuries and ailments.

Can't other drugs do this just as well?

What point is there to legalize an illegal drug when there are other
forms of drugs that can work just as well?

For example, a man who was in a car accident and suffers from chronic
back pain uses marijuana to relieve his suffering. Although there is
some skepticism, people believe marijuana works. But can't other drugs
work better for chronic back pain?

In a time and age when drugs can be created for nearly any illness,
people still claim that marijuana is the best thing for them. The
legality of the drug is not under question, but the medical purpose of
it is. The claim of medical uses is just a shield to receive marijuana
for recreational use.

Also, if the legalization of marijuana for medical use were approved,
how much would it actually be used for medical purposes? It can easily
be assumed that certain people who do not need the drug would ask for
it, and doctors who don't really care will approve it. With no one to
oversee people who grow and legally use marijuana, drug use could
spiral out of control.

California has had a law called Proposition 215, which allows those
with a doctor's permission to grow and use their own marijuana
stashes. With this law in place, it could lead people who don't need
the drug to grow and even sell their own stashes. All legal under the
law.

Until the legality of the drug is finally decided, the law of the land
still stands. Marijuana is illegal. It should stay that way for
medical purposes as long as there are other drugs that can cure pain.
All medicinal marijuana creates a higher risk of spreading an illegal
drug. It does not serve any purpose as a medical drug.
